Question: What does たまったもんじゃない (tamatta mon jyanai) mean?

Answer:

The “tamatta” part isn’t tamaru as in “to collect/gather” (溜まる) or tamaru as in “to save up” (貯まる). The whole thing emphasizes the expressions tamaranai (堪らない) or gaman dekinai (我慢できない), which both mean “intolerable/unbearable”.

It’s a phrase used at the end of a sentence, so examples are like this:
今日は暑くてたまったもんじゃない (kyou ha atsukute tamatta mon jyanai)
Today is unbearably hot.
そんな言い方されたらたまったもんじゃない (sonna iikatasaretara tamatta mon jyanai)
I can’t stand being spoken to like that.
