This chapter was MUCH better than the series has been as of late. I was pleasantly surprised. That being said, here’s a summary of events along with a few translation snippets.

I figured I may as well make a post about it, but I’m not going to be translating the remaining Nurarihyon no Mago chapters. Just FYI. I could probably post the 85% or so of 208 that I did, since Viz’s translations are godawful, but yeah. Ironically enough, I’ll probably end up buying all three Jump NEXT! issues because of other series. On a positive note, that means you’ll likely be getting the remaining chapters in full color, since someone will inevitably rip the digital versions from Jump Alpha.

I am determined to finish this tomorrow (today I ended up a bit busier than I’d anticipated), but here’s a preview of why Yoshihira (Seimei’s son) had me going “T^T awww…” while reading:

(under a cut in case people want to wait for the entire translation/full scanlation)

SQUEE! My order from yesasia shipped today! That means it’ll get here earlier than I’d originally thought~ I wonder if I’ll still be able to send in to try and get a Nuramago/magico clear file when NEXT! gets here…

Oh! And for those interested, you can buy a digital copy of NEXT! from any of the sites listed here (taking into account the starting dates of availability indicated) - and the yahoo! bookstore has a 22-page preview, which basically means you can take a look at part of the full-color version of Nuramago 208. Just go here and click the button that says 立ち読み.

EDIT: If the preview button doesn’t work/show up for some reason, you can try this direct link.

…Seriously, guys. Be patient. The chapter is 64 freaking pages long.

SIXTY. FOUR.

Do you know how long the standard Weekly Jump chapter is? 19 pages. Even the monthly titles I work on are rarely more than 50 pages. Keep in mind too that Nuramago isn’t the only series I translate.

Going “omg where’s the translation why can’t it be out noooow it’s taking so loooong” isn’t going to get me to translate any faster. In fact, it’s likely to have the opposite effect. The more people act like that, the more I feel like trolling you rather than translating seriously.

Also? My life isn’t devoted to bringing you translations so you can get your manga fix. Despite what you might think, I actually do things other than translate. Shocking, I know!

Just something a bit interesting… this is from Nurarihyon no Mago chapter 205. The top is my translation (image from Mangatopia’s release), and the bottom is Viz’s, aka the official translation (image from Shonen Jump Alpha’s website).
(…mine’s kinda… a lot better. HEY VIZ COME HIRE ME.)

It’s the final chapter, everyone! (well, at least until the epilogue conclusion thing being published in August’s issue of Jump NEXT!) I’ve been translating Nuramago for the last… 50 or so chapters, starting during the Hyaku Monogatari Arc. It’s been an overall fun ride, though the series has (of course) had its ups and downs. And of course there’s still the super secret project mentioned at the end of the chapter…

Well, anyway, here are some extended translation notes for you guys!

—————-

[page 8]

Encho’s pronouns
IMO, it’s worth noting that Encho always used to use atashi to refer to himself, but uses watashi here instead. I think he’s actually been doing this for a few chapters now. For those who aren’t familiar with the two pronouns, atashi is generally only used by girls (and effeminate men). Watashi is the standard gender-neutral pronoun that basically everyone uses. Both use the same kanji, however.

Seimei and His Son
I mentioned this in an earlier chapter’s notes, but it’s particularly strange here. Second calls Seimei both 父上 (chichi-ue) and 父 (chichi) within the same panel. I honestly have no idea why he keeps switching between them, since he’s only used “chichi” in earlier chapters.

[page 9]

Darling Rikuo
The original Japanese is “愛しリクオ” (itoshi rikuo). Itoshi is a shortened version of itoshii, which means beloved/darling/dear/lovely/adorable… you get the gist. I admit I probably went for the most hilarious option of the bunch, because it’s the last chapter so why not!

[page 10]

Kuroobi
His name literally means “black belt”, as in the type earned in karate, judo, etc.

Fukui and Wakayama
Fukui refers to Fukui Prefecture, which is in the Chubu Region. Wakayama refers to Wakayama Prefecture, which is in Kansai and about one prefecture removed from Kyoto. Basically, it means that Tamazuki has already moved his forces into the area.

[page 17]

Bahrain
Poor Shima, he’s pretty far from home. Bahrain is an island nation in the Middle East that’s actually made up of 33 islands. If Nuramago is meant to be taking place in the present day, then I feel especially bad for Shima - Bahrain has been having a lot of protests and uprisings over the past year or so, mostly geared toward achieving greater political freedom and civil rights.

Awashima, why are you saying “愛しいリクオ” (itoshii rikuo)? I am so SO tempted to translate it as “my darling Rikuo” just to watch all the hardcore shippers go WHAAAAAAT (lol for the misleading subject line up there).

…guys, talk me out of doing it. I’m feeling kinda silly, since it’s basically the last chapter and all. Or you could enable this craziness. That works too?

This week’s chapter is the last that will appear in Shonen Jump and the second-to-last chapter overall. The final chapter will be in the upcoming issue of Jump NEXT!. From the note at the end of the chapter, it seems the issue will be out in August. Generally chapters in NEXT! are significantly longer, though, so it’s likely that the last chapter will be 40-50 pages or so.

I thought I’d post about it since questions keep surfacing on the matter.
